That’s how Spotlight keeps track of what’s on your Mac. It indexes everything it can to make the search results appear faster when you search Spotlight. Is a free Mac utility which does one thing and one thing only. It watches Spotlight and displays a meter of Spotlight’s indexing activity. Red means high. Green means good. Yellow means whatever yellow means (some indexing activity but not much); medium is close enough. There are times when Spotlight indexing seems to go wonky and suck up CPU juice like a black hole does to light. If that happens, Spot-O-Meter turns red. ![]() If not, it stays at green. Spot-O-Meter does not monitor anything except Spotlight, so if it stays green, you’re good to keep going. If your Mac seems slower than normal, fire up Spot-O-Meter.
